BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- The city is applying to participate in the state’s Drones for First Responders pilot program offered through the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The city won’t learn until early next year whether it is selected as one of the participating municipalities.

City Council, during a Monday night session (Nov. 17), authorized the city administration to submit an application for the program and enter into an agreement with the state, should Bay Village be selected as a participant.

It is a new grant program that will provide 100 percent funding for drones, said Councilwoman Sara Byrnes Maier, who introduced the ordinance.

The program supports the use of drones by police departments, fire departments and emergency medical services.
