A former Gettysburg Times publisher was sentenced to one day in jail after he pled guilty to a federal mail theft case in June.

In addition to his day behind bars, Harry J. Hartman, 54, was ordered to pay $1,300 in fines and assessments. He was previously ordered to forfeit property that was stolen or purchased with funds from the stolen goods, including around 100 items of personal property.

Hartman stole packages from the Gettysburg Post Office between May 2023 and August 2024 that were meant for the Gettysburg College Print Center and Post Office.

The Gettysburgian, Gettysburg College’s student newspaper, covered the story in November 2024 and said the college had received an influx of reports of missing packages.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection
