ARMUCHEE, Ga. — Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta announced on Monday that it will close Camp Misty Mountain in Armuchee following a multi-year evaluation that found the 54-year-old facility requires increasingly expensive repairs and maintenance.

The 800-acre residential camp will cease operations in early spring after a task force of board members, volunteers, staff, and current members recommended the closure. The group cited steeply rising repair and maintenance costs for the property.

The council plans to redirect resources from Camp Misty Mountain to its two remaining year-round outdoor facilities: Camp Timber Ridge in Mableton and Camp Meriwether in Luthersville.

The organization said enhancements to those camps will help meet the evolving needs of current and future Girl Scouts.
