ANN ARBOR, MI — The city of Ann Arbor and Briarwood Mall are in an ongoing legal dispute and at stake are millions of dollars in property taxes the mall argues it shouldn’t be paying.

With the mall and the city at odds over property tax assessments, the case has been playing out in the Michigan Tax Tribunal since April 2021 with a side trip to the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Now it’s headed to trial, with the tax tribunal in Lansing scheduled to hear potentially several days of testimony from attorneys and expert witnesses in the case from June 22 to July 2, 2026.
