RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - On Tuesday afternoon, the House voted in favor of a bill that would force the Justice Department to release files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The vote marks a moment years in the making as survivors of Epstein’s abuse pushed for the release of the files.
“We demand justice, accountability, and support for survivors,” said one speaker during a rally on Tuesday before the House vote. “Acknowledge in the face of survivors that this happened and that this is true.”
Local organizations that support victims of abuse believe the high-profile case can serve as a catalyst for change, encouraging victims of abuse to come forward and ask for help.
“My hope is that it’s going to broaden the conversation for people to want to do something about this,”
