JACKSON, MI — A mother and son real estate duo are bringing a popular fried fish destination to Jackson.

Mindy Ozenberger and Taylor Wager of Harbor Springs plan to open a Scalawags Whitefish & Chips franchise at 1200 W. Parnall Road in Blackman Township. The site previously housed Big Dog BBQ and Todoroff’s Original Coney Island.

They chose Jackson because they have family in the area, Wager said, and because of their real estate background, the unique building, high traffic count and drive-thru made it an ideal location, Ozenberger said.

The Jackson store will offer the same experience as its northern counterpart, offering a “Northern Michigan fish camp feel,” Wager said. It will feature vintage fishing gear and wallpaper displaying their family fishing photos.
