One character has officially said goodbye to television’s warm glowing warming glow.

The Simpsons killed off one of their longest running characters on episode seven of the show’s 37th season as Springfield’s First Church organist Alice Gluck keeled over onto her organ and died suddenly in the middle of a sermon by Reverend Lovejoy.

Her death served as the fulcrum for the rest of the episode—titled “Sashes to Sashes ” —which saw Alice leave her estate to Springfield Elementary to fund the school’s new music program. However her efforts from beyond the grave were nearly thwarted when Mayor Quimby’s son suggested using the money for a three-day musical festival.
