Every year for Thanksgiving, my three siblings and their families and our parents all meet up at my folks’ house. Every year, my sister’s wife makes pumpkin pie. She’s such a lovely person, but she is a notably bad cook. The pie is…bad. Inedible. People always put some on their plates so it appears gone, and no feelings are hurt. Here’s the thing: I love pumpkin pie, and I can make a really good one. I want to bring my take on pumpkin pie to Thanksgiving this year, but I don’t want to overshadow or embarrass my sister-in-law.
