Manitoba’s NDP government set out its plans for the year ahead Monday in a Speech from the Throne that focused heavily on health care, cost-of-living relief, public safety and a proposed northern trade corridor through Churchill.

Lt.-Gov. Anita Neville delivered the speech, titled , in the Manitoba Legislature. The document outlines Premier Wab Kinew’s priorities for the new session and claims progress on promises made since the NDP took office two years ago.

The speech opened with a land acknowledgement and a tribute to those affected by this year’s severe wildfire season and drought. The government noted that more than 35,000 people were displaced by fires and announced that a bridge on Highway 313 in Lac du Bonnet will be renamed in honour of Sue and Richard Nowell
