The Detroit City Council gave key approvals on Tuesday, Nov. 18, for a plan to redevelop the old and polluted Uniroyal factory site on the east riverfront near Belle Isle to be a future WNBA team's headquarters and practice facility as well as youth athletic fields.

Council members voted unanimously in favor of a land agreement and a Brownfield tax capture development incentive to support the plan, put forth by an investor group led by the Detroit Pistons organization, to build an approximately $50 million and 75,000-square-foot headquarters and practice facility for the still-to-be-named WNBA team.
