SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Jefferson and Washington met for a second time this season on Saturday during the first round of the Class AAAA football playoffs, just a week after meeting to finish up the regular season.

Much like the first game, it was the fourth-seeded Cougars dominating their county rivals, as they overcame a slow start to pull away for a 51-10 win over the 13th-seeded Patriots and advance to the quarterfinals.

“Because of the game last week, I feel like the kids didn’t treat this game as a different game, a new game, a different team — like they were just going to lay down because of last week’s game. I told them that they were going to fight, because they’re fighting for their playoff survival, too. That’s what Washington did,” Jefferson coach Craig Hunter said.
