Next Sunday, the Christian church focuses on “Christ the King." When we think of a “king”, we think of someone who rules over a particular nation or part of the world. Some kings have more power than others to rule. For example, the King of England doesn’t rule England. They have a parliament. His role today is largely symbolic. The king of Saudi Arabia, however, is the supreme political leader of his country. King Jesus has nothing in common with either the powerful kings of our world or the symbolically powerful kings of our world. His kingdom is not of this world or like this world’s kingdoms.

When we celebrate Jesus as King, we are not suggesting he is the leader of any country. We suggest, rather,
