Lawyers for Matthew Farwell, a former Stoughton police detective accused of killing a young pregnant woman whom he allegedly began sexually exploiting when she was 15 years old , are seeking to have his upcoming trial moved to Rhode Island, according to court documents filed Monday

Lawyers for Farwell, 40, requested the change of venue to Providence in a 23-page motion filed Monday. Farwell’s trial is scheduled for next October.
Farwell “should be tried in a court of law, not the court of public opinion,” his defense lawyers wrote in the motion.
