Law enforcement is urging caution when meeting people in person after connecting online. This reminder follows the arrest of 32-year-old Kerstin Dewayne Matkins, who was charged with aggravated assault after a meeting that led to a shooting.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office reported that Matkins was not who he appeared to be, resulting in one person being hospitalized. The incident occurred last week in the Harvest community when two individuals traveled to meet someone they had chatted with online.
"In this day in time, if you're going anywhere with a stranger, we highly recommend you don't do that," said Brent Patterson, spokesperson for the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
