NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA, Fla. — With no rain in the forecast and conditions getting drier across Northeast Florida, Nassau County fire officials are urging residents to use extra caution as the threat of brush fires increases.
Nassau County Fire Rescue Chief Brady Rigdon says the area is the driest it’s been in weeks — and even a small spark can quickly become dangerous.
“Right now, we are dry. We haven’t had any significant rain for at least 20 days,” Rigdon said.
Across the county, dry patches of grass and gusty winds are creating prime conditions for brush fires. Rigdon says firefighters have responded to several small fires in just the past few weeks, and they’re monitoring how conditions continue to change.
