BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Roblox Corporation announced new safety features that will use facial recognition technology to verify user ages and restrict communication between age groups.
The gaming platform, popular among children, will implement age verification that uses camera-based facial scanning to determine user ages. The company said the facial scan images are deleted after age verification is complete.
“Everyone will be age checked, and then you’ll be put into your age group, and you’ll be able to speak to your peers,” according to Eliza Jacobs, senior director of product policy at Roblox.
Once implemented, the changes will only allow users to chat with others in their verified age group. The security measures will launch in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands next month
