BEAUMONT, Texas — A Southeast Texas nonprofit is calling for donations as it works to keep up with rising demand during the holiday season. The Dream Center of Southeast Texas, which operates a food pantry that serves nearly 700 families a month, says recent SNAP benefit interruptions have pushed the center to its limits.

The nonprofit told 12News that most of its clients rely on SNAP, which was briefly cut off during the recent government shutdown. Co-founder Velma Conner said the change led to a sudden spike in need.

“We wanna help as many people we can but we are limited with our funding and resources,” Conner said.
