ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A U.S. district judge denied a motion filed by St. Louis City Sheriff Alfred Montgomery’s lawyers to request his release from jail on Monday, court documents show.
Montgomery, 28, was taken to jail on Oct. 14 after he was indicted felony charges that the U.S. Attorney’s Office says he committed while out on bond. These felony charges accuse the sheriff of witness retaliation and tampering.
On Oct. 21, Montgomery’s lawyer Justin Gelfand filed a motion to appeal the decision with a U.S. district judge.
In the appeal, Montgomery’s defense argued they were not able to have their own witness testify in what they said would prove Montgomery did not commit the felony crimes he’s accused of.
