WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) - West Liberty police have ruled the drowning death of a one-year-old child accidental following an investigation.

On the morning of August 25, police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a house located in the 500 block of E 1st Street.

Upon arrival, officers found the child unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool. The child was pronounced dead later at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Police say the incident was determined to be accidental after reviewing witness statements, physical evidence, and medical examination reports. The child’s name has not been released.
