Providence Swedish plans to eliminate nearly 300 positions in the Puget Sound area in the next few months, the health care system announced Tuesday, citing new state taxes and federal cuts.
The decision to cut about 3.8% of the organization’s roughly 7,700 Seattle-area jobs will hit more than 100 departments at Providence Swedish’s First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard and Issaquah hospitals and nearby clinics. The positions are pretty evenly spread across the four hospitals and clinics, and include union and nonunion clinical, administrative, management and open roles, said Swedish Health Services President and CEO Dr. Elizabeth Wako.
