The Metropolitan King County Council unanimously approved a $20 billion two-year budget Tuesday, passing it without the agita of some recent budgets after two tax increases in the last year drained some of the stress out of the process.
The budget makes some attempts to backfill funding — in Medicaid, housing, food banks, emergency management — that has been cut or is likely to be cut by the Trump administration.
County leaders have, for years, warned of coming budget crunches as inflation and the population rise faster than the county’s ability to increase property taxes — one of the two main funding sources for the general fund.
