Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the most iconic figures in world football, made a surprise appearance at a glitzy dinner at the White House hosted by US President Donald Trump for his royal guest, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
In an address at the state dinner on Tuesday night, Trump thanked the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for attending and said that his youngest son, Barron, is a “big fan” and the 19-year-old was impressed that he got to meet the Portugal football legend.
“Barron got to meet him. And I think he respects his father a little bit more, now, just the fact that I introduced you,” Trump said. "So I just want to thank you both for being here. Thank you very much. Really an honour."
