South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says charges are ‘likely’ to be brought in another one of the suspected drug overdose investigations tied to the state's prison system.
Jackley told the Argus Leader in a Nov. 18 phone interview he expects to bring new charges related to a case involving the death of an inmate.
The Division of Criminal Investigation, an agency under the Attorney General's office, has opened seven investigations since February involving the drug overdose deaths of inmates within the state's prison facilities.
Indictments have already been brought in two overdose cases: Anthony Richards, a 20-year-old inmate who died at the G. Norton Jameson Annex in February, and Jason Garreau, 39, who was being held at the South Dakota State Penitentiary when he died in May.
