Orcutt Academy senior forward took her first step to play college basketball on Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson signed her letter of intent to play Division I basketball at the University of New Mexico in front of her coach, family and classmates at Orcutt Academy.
“I’m still shaking,” said Johnson, grinning. “I’m so excited. It makes me so happy to see all these people out here supporting me.”
Johnson had offers from schools such as Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, and UNLV but decided on New Mexico because she said she felt immediately comfortable after meeting the coaches and players.
“It wasn’t a hard decision,” Johnson said. “It felt right.”
Johnson played the last three season on Orcutt’s varsity basketball team where she averaged 22.2 points and 14.9 rebounds per game. This past season she
