The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a cyclone watch alert for communities in north-west Arnhem Land and the Tiwi Islands, with Tropical Cyclone Fina now due to make landfall as a category two storm by Saturday morning.

The watch zone stretches from Milingimbi in the east to the whole of the Tiwi Islands in the west, including the communities of Minjilang, Warruwi, Maningrida, Gunbalanya, Milikapiti, Pirlangimpi and Wurrumiyanga.

Darwin remains in the forecast track zone but no alert has been issued for the city so far.

The cyclone is now estimated to be 370 kilometres north-north-east of Darwin and 210 kilometres north-north-west of Minjilang, the latest BOM advice shows, and continues to move north-east at 12 km/h.

Gales with wind gusts of up to 120 km/h are expected to develop
