Festive folks who enjoy going over the river and through the woods to cut down their own Christmas trees need a permit to do so on public land.

Details about designated cutting areas, dates and types of trees that may be cut may be found at recreation.gov , as well as information about purchasing a Christmas tree permit. Search for Kaibab or Dixie National Forest Christmas Tree Permits, according to press releases from the U.S. Forest Service, via both the Kaibab and Dixie national forests.

It is important to carefully read the overview and need-to-know information prior to purchasing the permit, the forest service said. Visitors will also need to set up or log in to a recreation.gov account to complete the transaction.
