Passenger and commercial flights operating out of Singapore are set to become more expensive after the announcement of a world-first sustainable fuel tax added onto ticket prices.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) recently revealed it would introduce a "Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Levy" for flights booked from April 1, 2026 and due for departure from the South-East Asian country from October 1.
"The introduction of the SAF Levy marks a major step forward in Singapore's effort to build a more sustainable and competitive air hub," CAAS director-general Han Kok Juan said.
"It provides a mechanism for all aviation users to do their part to contribute to sustainability at a cost which is manageable for the air hub.
