ESPAÑOLA, N.M. —

A man from Española pleaded guilty to several federal charges following a series of robberies in 2022.

Court documents show 24-year-old Ricky Martinez Jr. robbed three restaurants over a four-day period. This led to an attempted robbery at a fourth location fives days after.

Martinez jumped over that counter which led to a physical struggle with a cashier, who was shot and killed. Gunfire also hit another employee related to the other shooting victim.

A guilty plea deal was reached as Martinez pleaded to three counts of interference with commerce by robbery, attempted interference with commerce by robbery involving a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
