Two people were rescued Tuesday after a trench collapse at a worksite in South Yarmouth. A third worker died in the incident, officials said.
The collapse happened around 8:50 a.m. at a worksite located at 152 S. Shore Drive. According to fire officials, one person was able to get himself out of the trench.
NewsCenter 5's camera was there when one man was wheeled away from the site on a stretcher several hours after the initial collapse. As the stretcher was pushed toward waiting ambulances, the patient reached out and shook hands with another man.
A third person was found dead in the trench. The Yarmouth Fire Department said crews were transitioning to a recovery mission. The person's body was recovered at 2:45 p.m.
