NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Council approved a resolution on Tuesday night on a plan to allow Metro Police to apply for a state grant to put school resource officers (SROs) in more Nashville schools.
Metro Nashville Police said Tuesday that they currently employ 80 SROs. All 31 middle schools have them, and all the high schools have at least two in each. Some have three.
Metro police said they do not have any SRO vacancies. However, the police chief said in August that only nine would be at Metro elementary schools due to staffing shortages.
Tuesday night’s vote at Metro Council could open the department up to more money to put SROs in more schools. It’s through the Statewide School Resource Officer Program grant.
