JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — State lawmakers are looking to protect seniors from scams with a new initiative.

Florida's Lt. Governor Jay Collins was joined by Department of Elder Affairs Secretary Michelle Branham at Cypress Village in Jacksonville Tuesday to announce the creation of 'Operation Senior Shield.'

"Education and awareness matter. Community and family conversations matter. When seniors know what to look for, when they feel empowered, they not only help themselves and their families, but other seniors in their lives, and that ripple effect is so powerful," Branham explained.
