From cancer-targeting nano-robots to sustainable bio-manufacturing and climate-smart rice, this year’s winners of the Tata Transformation Prize have been picked from over 200 nominations from across the country.

Three scientists were announced on Wednesday by the New York Academy of Sciences and Tata Sons and will receive ₹2 crore each (approximately $228,000) to follow through with their research. The winners were Padubidri V Shivaprasad from National Centre for Biological Sciences (for food security); Ambarish Ghosh from the Indian Institute of Science (healthcare), and Balasubramanian Gopal, Indian Institute of Science (for sustainability). They will be felicitated in December.
