Rameswaram: A 21-year-old man in Rameswaram has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 12th-grade schoolgirl to death after she repeatedly rejected his advances. The tragic event occurred as the victim was on her way to school, highlighting the extreme consequences of harassment and gender-based violence.
The Harassment and a Father’s Intervention
The victim, whose name is being withheld, was a student at the Rameswaram Government Girls Higher Secondary School. The accused, identified as Muniyaraj (21), also from the Cherangottai area near Rameswaram, had been persistently pressuring the girl to be in a relationship with him for several days. Disturbed by the unwanted attention, the girl informed her father, Mariyappan, who is a fisherman.
