It’s that time of the year for MLB teams to add minor leaguers to the 40-man roster to keep them out of the Rule 5 draft and the Yankees beat Tuesday’s deadline by protecting three prospects who are ranked in their top 30 by MLB Pipeline:

Right-hander Elmer Rodriguez (No. 3), center fielder Spencer Jones (No. 4) and right-hander Chase Hampton (No. 8).

Six others in the Yankees’ top 30 didn’t get the promotion — left-hander Henry Lalane (No. 9), left-hander Brock Selvidge (No. 10), right-hander Brendan Beck (No. 11), outfielder Jace Avina (No. 24), first baseman T.J. Rumfield (No.25) and right-handed reliever Eric Reyzelman. (No. 26).
