FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. — The opportunity to speak out on off-agenda items at Fountain Hills Town Council meetings has been eliminated.
The council voted 5-2 to change the rules of procedure and no longer allow a "Call to the Public" in an effort to avoid lawsuits and keep decorum in the council chambers.
“This is an exceptional day in Fountain Hills because every other town and city, almost in the country, has the call to the public where people can converse with their public officials," Councilmember Brenda Kalivianakis told 12News following the meeting.
The public will still be able to voice their opinion during meetings, but those opportunities will be limited to agenda items only.
According to Town Attorney Jennifer Wright, a call to the public is not mandated by Arizona open meetin
