Ukraine said it had successfully struck targets in Russia using U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles, ending a months-long absence of the powerful weapon from the battlefield.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine called it "an iconic event that emphasizes Ukraine's unwavering devotion to its sovereignty."

"Despite the ongoing challenges of Russian attacks, Ukrainians remain resilient, demonstrating determination to persistently and systematically defend their homeland," the statement said.

"The use of long-range impressions, in particular such as ATACMS, will continue."
