A 26-year-old pedal cyclist, Kesten Elick, has died after being hit by a motor vehicle in Lumbadzi, Lilongwe, police have confirmed.

Lumbadzi Police spokesperson, Felix Kwinyani, said Elick met his fate on November 18, 2025, in the morning at Lumbadzi ADMARC along the Lilongwe–Kasungu M1 Road.

Kwinyani says the driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin pickup, Laston Chitanda, was coming from the direction of Lumbadzi Trading Centre heading towards Kanengo with seven passengers on board.

Upon arrival at Lumbadzi ADMARC depot, due to speeding, he hit Elick, who was in front, and was heading in the same direction.

Following the impact, the cyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
