“Very well-deserved,” Fighting Irish head coach Maggie Mullen said. “They worked hard all year and had a great season, so it was nice to see that validation.”

Even with an automatic berth into the 16-team tournament, the Irish took nothing for granted this season.

“It actually made us work harder because … the girls especially wanted to prove to everybody that they deserved to be there, not just because they’re hosting,” Mullen said. “I think it actually pushed them very positively.
