Fines that target drivers at school gates make council £680,000 View 4 Images
Drivers have accused a council of "money-making" after a scheme that targets drivers during 'school gate' times has brought in nearly £680,000. The scheme bans motorists from using roads outside 11 schools between 8:15am and 9am in the morning and 2:45pm and 3:45pm in the afternoon.
Launched in March last year, it was revealed that the Medway Council's School Streets initiative council has to date issued almost 25,000 fines Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) - making £678,690. R esidents living near the schools have complained that the restrictions have pushed traffic to other nearby roads, and that drivers still speed in front of the schools.
