A former chief inspector at South Wales Police has been charged with misconduct in a public office. Christopher Peters, 54, is alleged to have committed the offence after leaving the force and taking on a role with the probation service.

The regional organised crime unit – a team from the South Wales, Gwent, and Dyfed-Powys police forces – said Peters had been charged with the offence while working for the probation service. He is due to appear at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court on December 12.

A probation service spokeswoman said: "A member of probation staff has been arrested and suspended from duty.

"It would be inappropriate to comment on a live police investigation."
