NEW YORK (WABC) -- Jessica Tisch will continue to stay on as New York City's police commissioner under Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's administration.

Mamdani announced the appointment of Tisch on Wednesday morning.

In a press release, Mamdani said:

"As the 48th Commissioner of New York City Police Department, Commissioner Tisch has rooted out corruption in the upper echelons of the NYPD and led a department-wide focus on accountability and transparency, while delivering historic reductions in violent crime."

He credits Tisch's leadership for achieving:

The fewest shooting incidents and shooting victims in recorded history over the first ten months of the year.

Murders down nearly 20 percent citywide year-to-date.

More than 4,800 illegal guns removed from the city's streets in 2025.
