Law enforcement officials in Belize say they have arrested and charged a local construction worker with the savage murder of a Canadian snowbird.

Cops said late Monday that 25-year-old Gain Eldred Waigth of the Cayo District has been charged with the stabbing murder of 65-year-old snowbird Marty Ann Throne .

Thorne was found murdered on the grounds of the property she owned on Nov. 9.

Investigators believe the killing was a robbery that went sideways.

Thorne was a masseuse who spent part of the year in Belize and the rest of the year in Vancouver. She had lived in the Central American country for years and owned the Raw Spa Cabanas in Bullet Tree Village on the border with Guatemala.
