MADISON (WKOW) — One of the most polarizing topics in the country right now is data centers. That's no different in Wisconsin.

Datacentermap.com reflects that there are currently nearly 50 data centers in the Badger State. Eleven are in or near Madison, with a handful already existing in the downtown area. They almost all vary in size, scale, purpose, and owner. Research shows that companies are targeting states around the Great Lakes because of the access to water.

Recent larger-scale project proposals in Dane County have influenced the creation of an advisory committee on data centers. Members' primary concerns revolve around power, land, water and transparency from the corporations selling municipalities on their facilities.
