Farmington fire levy defeated after provisional vote counted

The Farmington fire levy, which on election night had 152 votes for the levy, 151 votes against the continuing 2.9 mills renewal, plus an additional levy for providing and maintaining fire and EMS protection.

But on Wednesday, the one provisional vote was added to the vote total, which was against the levy, meaning it was not a majority vote, ending in a tie: 152 votes for, 152 against, and the levy was defeated.

The defeat was certified by the Trumbull County Board of Elections on Wednesday morning.

The levy would cost property owners in the township $102 per $100,000 of appraised value and was estimated to raise $203,907 to fund the department's operations.

Fire chief Jonathan Bland told 21 News on election night that the additional money will be offset by older levies falling off.
