The Cherokee, Chickasaw and Choctaw nations are suing Gov. Kevin Stitt for appointing a special prosecutor to take on wildlife crimes on tribal land.

In October, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife and Conservation said in that it will enforce state wildlife laws across the state regardless of tribal citizenship. Attorney General Gentner Drummond intervened to drop charges against a Choctaw citizen charged with hunting without a state-issued license . Stitt responded by appointing special prosecutor Russell Cochran to prosecute tribal citizens for hunting or fishing within a tribal reservation without a state-issued license.
