A small group of Renfrew County students are blazing a trail this fall as the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) rolls out Eastern Ontario’s first Project SEARCH program, an internationally recognized model that helps youth with disabilities build the skills and confidence needed to enter the workforce.

Five RCDSB students began their 10-month placement in September at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, the host site and primary partner for the initiative. The program is being delivered also in partnership with the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre and Community Living Upper Ottawa Valley.Working alongside hospital staff, the interns rotate through three departments over the school year, gaining hands-on experience in real workplace settings.
