Hanover Foods must pay a $1.15 million civil penalty after four years of litigations over violations of the Clean Water Act at its Hanover wastewater treatment facility.

The fine and $1.5 million in upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility are part of a settlement agreement between Hanover Foods, the Pa. Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association.

A summary of Hanover Foods’ violations says the company violated its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit more than 600 times in the last nine years at its wastewater treatment facility.
