A car burst into flames, and a tractor-trailer spilled diesel fuel across I-395 north in a dramatic scene during an early morning crash.

East Putnam firefighters rushed to the crash near the Killingly line, just south of exit 45, around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19. When crews arrived, they found a car fully engulfed in fire and a tractor-trailer with its brakes burning. Diesel fuel was spilling out of the truck.

Firefighters extinguished the fires, and a Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Hazmat team responded to clean up the fuel spill.

Police shut down I-395 in both directions for several hours as they worked to clear the scene.

A call to Connecticut State Police, who are investigating the crash, about injuries was not immediately returned.
