CORDES LAKES, Ariz. — The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is searching for an elderly man lost in flash flood waters at Big Bug Creek near Cordes Lakes.
YCSO said at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, residents near the East Fremont Drive and Thunderbird Trail crossing reported that a vehicle was swept away in floodwaters.
Deputies immediately responded and found a small sedan being carried away with two men on or near the trunk, officials said.
The situation became critical when the vehicle turned over in the strong current, YCSO said.
A deputy reportedly pulled one of the men out of the floodwaters, but the driver, a 70-year-old Cordes Lakes resident, could not be rescued at the time. A family member confirmed the driver left his residence around 3 p.m. and never reached his destination.
