Lucas County has approved $200,000 for a consultant to create a “prioritized forecast” of renovations necessary to extend the life of its nearly 50-year-old jail.
The county, while it appropriated the funds on Tuesday, has not yet selected a consultant to complete the assessment. The chosen consultant will be asked to “identify and prioritize deficiencies in the facility and to develop cost estimates” for the county, creating a “prioritized forecast of anticipated capital expenditures over a ten-year period from 2026-2036.”
Funds will be appropriated from the county’s 2025 capital improvement plan, which was amended to include the fee for the prospective consultant. Commissioners approved the funds unanimously.
